Kahoot
Kahoot is not a math-specific resource per se, but I
am most certainly going to give it a try in the classroom, for math and with
other subjects too. Kahoot is a
game-based learning platform that allows users to make learning games from a
series of multiple choice questions. The “kahoots” can be a quiz, discussion,
or merely a survey. Students answer from their devices, enter in the pin number
of the kahoot to enter the quiz, and can then participate in the activity
individually or as a team.
A teacher could use kahoots in any strand, but it makes the most sense
in Data Management and Probability because it allows the user to make surveys,
which is an essential component of the strand.
I could use kahoots during any part of teaching. It could be a
diagnostic tool to see how much students remember, it could be a way to check
in to ensure understanding, or as a review tool before a test. Students are
usually pretty competitive, so I think that it would definitely help students
become engaged in the material, as they become fixated on getting in the
winning points for their team, thus accidentally learning something in the
process.
