Area Game
For this game, each player has a grid of their own and take turns
rolling a set of dice. The player then picks one of the results and then
selects a shape with the corresponding number. The object of the game is to
fill up your grid with no spaces/as little spaces as possible before the other
player. Annessa Casier’s group used this as one of their activities for a learning
activity presentation.
The game relates to the Measurement strand of the curriculum, as it
requires a rudimentary understanding of area and perimeter. This is a simple
game that can be played as part of a lesson and then re-used on other days
during indoor recess or for students that finish their work early. Because the
game does not require extensive prior knowledge, this could be a good minds-on
activity done during any point of the Measurement unit.
