Integro
Integro is a game to help students practice adding integers, although it
could be adjusted for practicing subtracting integers too if desired. In the
game, cards from a deck of cards are given values from -10 to 10. In a round
each player places one card on the table and the first person to shout out the
sum of all the cards wins all the cards on the table. The game ends when one
person has all the cards.
This game corresponds to the Number Sense and Numeration strand of the
grade 7 curriculum (and up if students still want to practice) because students
must demonstrate an understanding of addition and subtraction of fractions and
integers. I would use this game as a diagnostic activity for grade 8 or during
the Number Sense unit with grade 7’s. Once introduced to the students, it can
be used as an indoor recess activity or something for early finishers to do.
