Bubble bubble, toil, and trouble ratio activity
This is the activity I created for my first Learning Activity
Presentation. I made it Halloween themed because I presented towards the end of
October. It involves adjusting a recipe based on serving size, both a practical
and important skill.
I set the target grades as 6-8 for proportional relationships under the
Number Sense and Numeration strand. The reason I gave a range is because the
activity can be adjusted for difficulty depending on the numbers you use in the
recipe (I aimed for ones that would be really tidy, but you can change it any
way you please).
I will certainly use this in the classroom not as a diagnostic activity,
but will use it only after students have become more comfortable with ratios.
It went well during my presentation, so hopefully it will go smoothly in the
classroom too!
